Today here we described best desktop monitor for photo editing and video making. Over the years the market for PC screens has become more complex. It is no longer just a question of taking advantage of a conventional screen to fulfill tasks that are just as important, but of precisely targeting its use. The manufacturers offer very distinct ranges of products, for each use and activity, for any budget: size, definition, format, technology of the slab, the related criteria diverge according to the public. Monitors for players or for creators, curved, panoramic, 4K, touch screens, 3D compatible, portable, a multiplicity that can sometimes be disconcerting at the time of choice.
Fortunately, we are working to make things a little easier via our various buying guides. If we have already given our advice on choosing a gaming screen, as well as that of a screen intended for graphics, it is now the turn of office and multimedia screens to pass under our magnifying glass.
What are the selection criteria we have used? Considering that we are looking for a screen for standard office use, with multimedia from time to time, we have prioritized requirements criteria such as budget and visual comfort.
5 Best Desktop Monitor for Photo Editing and Video Making
1: AOC 22B1HS: small screen and low price
Is your budget tight to equip yourself with a new screen or do you want to reduce the clutter on your desk as much as possible? Then the AOC 22B1HS is for you! Sold for a bite of bread, generally below the 100 € mark, this screen displays a diagonal of 21.5 inches and is ideal when you want to optimize the space available on the desktop.
Smaller screen, very low price, but what about the display quality? In truth, it is similar to that of more expensive screens, for the simple reason that the AOC 22B1HS is a WLED monitor equipped with an IPS panel. This technology shows many advantages, starting with its wide range of colors and its viewing angles much wider than on TN or VA panels, its only weak point remains its contrast ratio, it is here however correct with a value 1000: 1. In addition, the Full HD definition brings here all the necessary visual comfort, if this screen is perfect for office use, it is also suitable for multimedia use. Your films and series will undoubtedly benefit from the vibrant colors of this panel,
The choice of this screen is also relevant from an ergonomic point of view. It benefits from a flat profile and fine contours, which allows it to be very discreet on a desk. However, at a low price, it does not have an adjustment option, so it is not possible to adjust the height or the inclination and it is true that this is unfortunate. Its connection is also quite poor with only an HDMI connector and a VGA, but this should be enough for fixed use and even as a supplement to a laptop.
2: Lenovo L24e-20: ideal for multi-screen configuration
- Optimize your working experience.
- Led monitor - 23.8" (23.8" Viewable) - 1920 x 1080 Full HD (1080P
- 250 cd/M² - 3000: 1 - 4 ms - HDMI, VGA
- Raven Black
- Comes with 1 x HDMI cable
For a few euros over a hundred, Lenovo offers us a 24-inch WLED Full HD screen (23.8 to be exact) equipped with a convincing VA panel for office use as multimedia.
Covering 72% of the NTSC gamut, with a brightness of 250 nits and a response time of between 4 and 6 MS depending on the mode selected, it displays very reasonable characteristics for conventional use and taking into account its price. We can certainly blame him for not being versatile enough, especially because of its limited color space and its low contrast ratio (1000: 1), these values make it difficult to recommend to those who wish for example to touch up photo in a precise and professional way.
However, this Lenovo monitor has more than enough arguments for standard office use. It even adds some additional advantages thanks to its ultra-thin and frameless design. Given its price, it is indeed a serious contender for those who wish to take advantage of a multi-screen configuration. The Lenovo L24e-20 is ideal for a configuration under the sign of productivity, to display multiple documents, texts, spreadsheets and so on. Some may prefer an ultrawide (panoramic) screen to fulfill this role, but the rates are clearly much higher.
3: ASUS VP249HE: versatility and visual comfort
- 23" Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS monitor with a wide 178° viewing angle. Flexible connectivity with HDMI and VGA ports
- Stereo 1.5W speakers provide spacious sound while eliminating the need for external speakers. Not VESA mount compatible.
- 0.27" Ultra Slim, white and silver body with frameless design is great for multi-monitor viewing in style
- Asus Eye Care technology with flicker-free and blue light filter to minimize eye fatigue. Industry leading 3 years warranty with rapid replacement

As we said in the introduction, we have focused here on monitors that try to keep a reasonable price, without forgetting the image quality and ergonomics. Not always easy to find a model that manages to reconcile its three criteria, but on this price range (between 120 and 140$) it is perhaps the most complete reference.
With a 24.1-inch IPS Full HD panel, the VP249HE pushes visual comfort and display quality a little further, thus gaining in versatility compared to the models presented above. However, it displays relatively similar characteristics, with 72% coverage on the NTSC gamut, a brightness of 250 nits and a contrast ratio which is once again 1: 1000, it is the technologies integrated in this screen that make here the difference. The ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR) makes it possible, for example, to compensate for the low contrast of the IPS panel and to improve the experience.
There is also Flicker-Free technology which reduces flicker and therefore eye strain, as well as Ultra-low Blue Light which allows you to choose between 4 blue light filters. Vivid Pixel technology improves the outline, sharpness and saturation of images, so as to make the experience more convincing. These different technologies are game changing, blacks are darker and colors more intense, which is an advantage if you want to use your screen for a little multimedia and video games. ASUS also offers a fairly complete OSD to configure this screen, with options especially designed for players, but also for creators with Game Plus Technology and Quick Fit Virtual Scale. Note also that the frequency of
Finally, although there is once again little ergonomic adjustment apart from that of the screen tilt, the ASUS VP249HE is compatible with VESA mounting systems. A nice asset that will allow you to easily attach it to a wall, but also to consider a multi-screen configuration thanks to its frameless design.
Samsung Monitor: a monitor that plays the card of versatility
- Industry leading 1800R screen curvature for immersive viewing
- Easy setup process, leveraging inside-out tracking (no additional tracking equipment necessary)
- Rapid 4ms response time for a clear picture during fast moving scenes
- Color gamut (NTSC 1976): 72 percent, brightness minimum: 200cd/m2; Windows Compatible: Windows 10. Outputs: Audio / Headphone (3.5 millimeter)
- Product Dimensions Without Stand: 24.5 inch x 14.5 inch x 3.2 inch; With Stand: 24.5 inch x 18.4 inch x 9.6 inch
For those who have a little space on their desk, using a 27-inch screen can be a good solution to enjoy an enlarged workspace and a better experience. There is no shortage of references of this size and we have selected this Samsung screen for its relative versatility and price which is among the lowest (perhaps even the lowest) in this category of monitors.
Concretely, we are dealing here with a fairly simple screen in its design, which once again offers quite few ergonomic adjustments (front and rear tilt and VESA compatibility) and a fairly lean connection (HDMI and VGA). Some may also be put off by using Full HD definition on a 24-inch screen, but ultimately staying with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p on such a screen … saves money.
For example, it is necessary to spend a minimum of 175$ more to acquire a similar panel (IPS) with a diagonal of 27 inches and a definition Quad HD. It’s all about viewing distance and the difference is quite subtle between the resolution of 82 ppi of this screen and the 109 ppi of a 24-inch QHD screen. Obviously, the gain is visible by passing on a QHD screen, but does not always deserve an additional investment. Despite everything, the following model is made for you if you prefer to have QHD on a 27-inch screen.
To come back to this Samsung, it wants to be versatile although it is mainly intended for office use. In addition to its IPS panel which offers good viewing angles and rich colors, it integrates Flicker-Free and Eye Saver technologies to reduce flicker and blue light emissions and supports AMD Free Sync to obtain a smooth experience in your video games. Its response time is also very correct for an IPS panel since it displays 4 MS. However, its refresh rate does not exceed 60 Hz.
ViewSonic VA2719-2K-SMHD: for an enlarged workspace

- INDUSTRY-LEADING WARRANTY: 3-year coverage with access to our US-based customer service team

With a diagonal of just over 68 cm, this ViewSonic monitor remains a model discreet enough for an office configuration. Its circular base, made of glass, helps it not to impose too much while its design with thin edges and its ultra-thin frame (9.9 mm) allows to consider a configuration with several screens.
Its WQHD definition makes it a very good contender for office use, the workspace is indeed more pleasant thanks to a higher pixel density and an enlarged surface, an asset if it is necessary to gain productivity. We find the qualities that can be expected from an IPS panel, with wide viewing angles and rich colors. It covers 99% of the sRGB space and uses a 10-bit display system for color depth. The 10-bit display gives this screen great precision in the reproduction of colors, their nuances and gradations. Coupled with IPS technology, it is clear that the strong point of this monitor lies in this fidelity to reproduce colors, although its contrast ratio (1000:
Not surprisingly, the price strongly influences the ergonomic settings of the screen. Despite everything, we can adjust the degree of inclination, the stand is also removable and everything is compatible with VESA mounting systems. In terms of visual comfort, apart from the gain provided by the WQHD definition, there is Eye Care technology which combines a blue light filter function and an anti-flicker mode. Connectivity level, we are entitled to two HMDI connectors and a Display Port, which is already better than the screens presented so far. Another detail, the screen is equipped with two speakers certainly dispensable in certain situations, but which can do the trick for others.
Display technology: should IPS panels be preferred?
Our comparison contains a majority of IPS panels and to tell the truth, it is not really a coincidence. Starting from the fact that the screens presented here are mainly intended for office tasks and require a minimum of versatility to authorize a multimedia use, even video game, we preferred IPS panels for their excellent color reproduction and their wide viewing angles. In addition, although this type of slab was expensive for a long time, this is no longer the case today.
IPS technology has some weaknesses, however, connoisseurs will probably mention IPS Glow, an inherent defect in IPS panels and which may appear on some of them. Others will discuss the overall correct contrast ratio, but below the VA panels with values that will sometimes be too low for image professionals (video, photo, etc.). The response time is also higher, the TN panels being the most reactive on this point. However, the gap is narrowing and most IPS panels today offer very satisfactory response times, even for gaming.
Finally, IPS panels are an excellent compromise, displaying much more faithful colors and offering a beautiful homogeneity of the display as well as wide viewing angles. These are versatile tiles, which is not the case with TN technology, especially praised for its dazzling reactivity. VA panels are far from being bad, the viewing angles are a little less good than with IPS, but the contrast is much improved.
What are the solutions to avoid eyestrain?
Who says heavy use, necessarily says eye strain, a problem that often comes to the fore among the many symptoms caused by prolonged use of a computer workstation?
Before talking about the different technologies to reduce fatigue and reduce eye disorders, it is necessary to specify that a few simple gestures will allow you to protect yourself against certain harmful effects. We first think of the layout of your work environment, the ambient light, or the posture in front of the screen, the adjustment of your screen; so many parameters to take into account, which we return to in a dedicated file with our advice for spending time in front of the screen.
Well aware of this problem, manufacturers regularly try to do well by multiplying the technologies supposed to protect our retinas from flickering, blue light and everything that can cause eyestrain. So, if you are sensitive to these criteria, then technologies like Flicker Free or Low Blue Light can protect yourself with relative effectiveness against certain ailments. Manufacturers sometimes integrate technologies that are complementary to anti-flicker and blue light solutions. Finally, most of these tiles have an anti-reflection treatment, guaranteeing the absence of light reflections and thus avoiding the associated fatigue.
